Why did you name it Shoebox Personal Chef Services???


The biggest question I get when talking about my personal chef busines...Why the name Shoebox? Here is the story.

Yes, I could just work under my name...Heather Torrente, but really what fun would that be. How would people get to know more about me. The name Shoebox leads to a great conversation about how I got where I am today.

First, I went earned my BA in Hosptiality Business from MSU, then after 10 years in the hotel business I realized I was meant to be in the kitchen. I then earned by Associate degree from the Art Institute of Michigan in Novi. I went on to work for AVI Foodservice at Wayne State University, Slow's To Go in Detroit, Olga's Kitchen, Panera Bread, and Dorsey Schools Culinary Academy to name a few.

Then 5 years ago I met an amazing person, and from the beginning we talked about how her home is shaped like a shoebox. Her home became our home, which is approximately 500 square feet. Not everyone can live in a Tiny Home, but we can.

We coined the term Team Shoebox because we are a fantastic team. Through the trials and tribulations of life we continued to grow as Team Shoebox and then we were challenged by the Flood of 2014. However, not the August flood; our flood occurred during January 2014 when the windchill hit -60 degrees. Our radiator pipe burst and our tiny home flooded with 200 gallons of water. Together Carrie and I are Team Shoebox because we work together to make life great. Now with Carrie's support, I am building our company: Shoebox Personal Chef Services. Being Shoebox Personal Chef Services remind me that I am always part of Team Shoebox and I know that being part of this team I can accomplish anything. That is how Shoebox Personal Chef Services got it's name.
